On our fourth experience for Pledge 1%—a global movement that encourages companies to donate 1% of their time, profit, product, or equity—we were hoping to give back over the holidays.
We found an opportunity to volunteer for Kennedy House, a not-for-profit organization in Toronto that provides secure custody, and shelter programs for children & youth facing emotional, behavioral, and legal challenges.
They needed volunteers for sorting and wrapping Christmas gifts for their clients, so it was the perfect opportunity for App Solve to contribute for the first time during Christmas.
Who Is Kennedy House And What They Do
Kennedy House works with youth to enable them to grow as individuals and contribute as members of the community. This is achieved in their residential and community-based programs by providing customized support and building trusting relationships.
Kennedy House was established in 1971 based on the initiative of a group of concerned community members with a vision for providing a new kind of care to young people. The founders believed that better care would be provided in small family-like residences or group homes, rather than through large, impersonal institutions.
Every year, Kennedy House makes an effort to provide a memorable holiday season to its youth. This is possible thanks to donations from the community and volunteers for sorting and wrapping.

We sorted and bagged warm clothes, gloves, hats, and self-care items. Also, stockings were stuffed with candies and other items. Every bag had a personalized tag for each of Kennedy House’s clients.
“I’m really glad I was able to be part of this initiative and make their holidays a bit more special,” said Sharath Reddy, Salesforce Developer at App Solve.
Our team had a very uplifting time and felt that this Pledge 1% event truly meant something toward making youth’s holidays at Kennedy House a happy one.
We want to thank Alexandra Kostantakos, Volunteer & Donation Coordinator from Kennedy House, for this opportunity to give back to our community. Thank you for letting us be part of your amazing work!
